Congrats to our cricket team

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Let me first congratulate the Jamaica cricket team for recording an amazing come-from-behind victory over Barbados on Monday to win the final of the Regional Four- Day Tournament in style at Sabina Park.

It was a superb result for the Jamaicans who won all their matches this year. It gave them a record fifth consecutive first-class title, as the country prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary of Independence. This victory transcends the game of cricket, as it was achieved under very trying circumstances.

Our Jamaican players have been vilified, ignored, and castigated by the West Indies Cricket Board. Chris Gayle was described as a don to be discarded for the good of the team and Marlon Samuels was deemed a bad apple.

So where should we go from here as it relates to cricket? I think we would be better off going it alone. We are quite capable of running our own affairs as we have been doing in other sports, quite successfully, I might add.
