Century for Sarwan
LONDON, England (CMC):Erratic West Indies batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan scored an attractive century as Leicestershire flourished on the second day of their Division Two County game against Derbyshire here yesterday.
The Guyanese right-hander, who has not played for West Indies in nearly a year, stroked 105 to lift the visitors to 318 for seven away to Derbyshire.
Leicestershire were in early trouble when they slipped to 25 for two after adding just one to their overnight score, following a rain-ravaged opening day on Thursday.
fourth wicket partnership
Their third wicket fell at 105 before Sarwan combined with Joshua Cobb, who also hit 105, to rally Leicestershire in a fourth-wicket partnership of 141.
Sarwan, a veteran of 87 Tests, stroked 16 fours and a six in an innings that required 193 balls and lasted a shade over four hours.
He survived a chance when 24 but batted without blemish thereafter to reach his 32nd first-class century.
Sarwan eventually perished when he pulled left-arm seamer Ross Whiteley low to David Wainwright at deep square-leg.
Cobb, meanwhile, struck 12 fours and a six off 165 balls in 201 minutes at the crease.
