Caribbean weekly stock market report
April 16-20, 2012
The misery of 2012 continued for Caricom investors, as declines in financial and manufacturing stocks, saw the major Caricom indices registering losses for yet another week.
For the week, 13,029,245 shares valued at US$4,401,696 crossed the floors of the six stock exchanges across Caricom, with 25 stocks advancing, 36 declining and 63 remaining unchanged.
Sagicor Life Jamaica was the volume leader with 1,712,783 shares traded, Pulse Investments posted the largest gain of 13.02% for the week, while on the losing end, Desnoes & Geddes fell 10.98%.
For the week, 14 of the CSX 30 stocks advanced, seven declined and nine were unchanged. The CSX 30 lost 1.86 points to close the week at 1,300.16, down 1.13% year to date.
In the CSX 30 there were gains for CW Jamaica (6.53%), JMMB (5.38%), Agostinis (1.02%) and Guardian Holdings (1.00%). On the losing end Desnoes & Geddes fell (10.98%), Carib Cement (9.65%), Scotia Group Jamaica (2.42%), Lascelles (2.20%) and Banks DIH (1.43%).
On the junior market, one stock advanced, nine declined and two were unchanged.
The CJSX lost 14.71 points to close the week at 1,616.74, down 11.02% for the year. While Caribbean Producers gained (1.62%), there were losses for HoneyBun (10.62%), Blue Power (8.37%), Access Financial Services (5.90%), General Accident (1.46%) and Lasco Distributors (1.19%).
