FORMER HEAD of the Correctional Services Major Richard Reese will take up his position as commissioner of customs on May 1.

The Ministry of Finance and Planning yesterday confirmed that Reese has been appointed to the post.

Reese also had a stint as permanent secretary in the Ministry of National Security and is a former member of the Jamaica Defence Force.

Acting Commissioner of Customs Devon Rowe will now return to his substantive post of director general in the Ministry of Finance and Planning.

Reese succeeds Danville Walker who resigned the post late last year to run on the Jamaica Labour Party's ticket in the December 29 general election. Walker was defeated by the People's National Party's Peter Bunting, the member of parliament for Central Manchester.
