Speak out against child-adult love affairs
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I found Colin Wheeler's Letter of the Day, published Monday, May 7, 2012, to be highly nonsensical.
For the writer to imply that women are solely responsible for the child or children they bear is ludicrous.
The issue, as stated by the writer, is not unique to Jamaica; many countries are faced with similar challenges. Some have implemented legislation to limit the number of children a couple or individual can have.
It intrigues me that the writer somehow feels that our prime minister is so influential that her input in this matter would bring an about-turn to the present predicament. If this were so, crime and myriad other ills could easily be solved.
Collectively, as a society, we need to speak up and speak out. Too many underage girls are in relationships with adults.
State agencies charged with protecting the rights and welfare of our children need all the support they can get. Information regarding abuse and neglect is vital in helping to change the mentality of predators within society.
