We must face reality
THE EDITOR, Sir:
While agreeing with Colin Wheeler in his Letter of Day on Monday, May 7, 2012, that "women ... must stop multiplying irresponsibly", one must consider the plight of pre-teen and underage mothers who have become pregnant by abuse, rape and/or incest.
These children are further abused and forced, by way of own unjust societal laws, to carry the unwanted products of conception to term and raise a child.
The resulting child, raised by Heaven knows who, is most often unwanted until he/she is wanted by the police! Improving our antiquated abortion laws to show some mercy to underage, underdeveloped and unprepared child mothers would go a long way in reducing the problems that children face in our uncaring society.
Expecting the fathers/predators to show responsibility, as suggested by Glenn Tucker, simply is not going to happen. We must face reality or face extinction at the hands of the ever-growing criminal element.
