Time to settle gay issue - Vaz

ALTHOUGH fiercely in opposition to a repeal of the buggery law, West Portland Member of Parliament Daryl Vaz is threatening to go to Parliament with a motion to force fellow legislators to confront and settle the issue.

Portia Simpson Miller, in the leadership debate in the run-up to the December 29, 2011 general elections, said an administration led by her would review the buggery law.

"It has to be debated, if it even means me moving a private member's motion in short order," Vaz told The Gleaner yesterday.

The MP pointed to United States President Barack Obama, who this week declared his support for same-sex marriages.

"It is a matter that needs to be resolved and a position taken," Vaz said.
