Let's call it the 'Nation's Speech'

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I am a proud Jamaican, born, bred and worked here all my life.

As a teenager, I participated in activities in 1962 which were geared towards the heralding of an independent nation. Those were happy times.

Time has flown, and now we are preparing to celebrate 50 years. This truly is a golden jubilee. What a tremendous achievement. Thank God for how He has led us.

Throughout the years, there have been numerous changes. Despite the many challenges we face, we are looking forward to greater improvements, particularly in the economy and social conditions. These cannot be achieved without a greater spiritual awareness.

Change is inevitable. At this point in time when a name change for the 'Throne Speech' is under consideration, my suggestion to Phillip Paulwell, leader of government business in the Lower House, is the 'Nation's Speech'. This I consider fitting for the nation of Jamaica. May God continue to bless our country.
