Round 16 of the National 20/20 cricket competition, organised by the Social Development Commission (SDC), begins today at the Yallahs Primary School in Yallahs, St Thomas.

Two matches are scheduled. The first bowls off at 10 a.m. where the Yallahs Cricket Club will oppose Albion Cricket Club. The second match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start. Defending parish champions Heartease Cricket Club will face Font Hill Cricket Club.

Heartease have won the SDC 20/20 parish title on many occasions and are strong favourites to again finish ahead of their rivals in St Thomas.

"We have been topping the St Thomas region over the years and we are still expected to do so," said Wayne Thompson, president of the Heartease cricket team.

While dominating the east, Heartease have failed to make it to the National finals and Thompson is hoping for a change this year.

"We have failed to win the overall competition, maybe because we are not playing on home field but we will do better this year," said Thompson.

The next featured matches of the parish phase of the competition will take place at the Folly Oval in Portland on May 27, while the third is on June 3 at Logwood in Hanover.
