Give back for Jamaica 50
THE EDITOR, Sir:
While the Government is making big plans (probably half a billion dollars' worth) to mark the 50th anniversary of Jamaica's Independence, it would be a wonderful thing if every Jamaican who is in a position to do so gives back something to the country as his or her personal contribution to mark this special year.
For example, the barber can give a free haircut to someone in need, the physician see a needy patient free, the farmer donate some fruits to a hospital, the teacher do an extra hour tutoring children, or the businessman make a special donation to charity, and so on all across the society. In this way, not only will the people help one another in a practical way but also feel involved and a real part of the celebration.
Often it is little things that make a difference and small gestures that move people.
Let us celebrate this special year by doing something extra. I will.
