Camp to the World: The ultimate summer camp experience
Young people 12 to 18 years old, and their parents, will be excited to know that there is an ultimate summer camp experience called Camp to the World (CTW)! To be held at the College of Agriculture Science and Education (CASE) in Portland from July 7 to 28, CTW is developmental, recreational and educational in nature.
CTW helps campers develop or expand their leadership skills, as well as knowledge of Jamaica's music, culture and history, and provides them with opportunities to interact with other youth from different backgrounds. In addition, CTW encourages campers to enjoy a healthy lifestyle through nutrition and sports, and to embrace and express core values such as love, peace, justice, tolerance, ethics, and service.
Camp to the World was founded in 2010 and is endorsed by the Jamaica National Commission for UNESCO and the Ministry of Education. It is the brainchild of Dr Donald Rhodd, a medical doctor and ophthalmologist who is also a former minister of state in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Culture.
"The distinctiveness of Camp To the World," Dr Rhodd observed, "is its diverse mix of camp programmes, the infusion of positive core values in all areas of camp life and the select group of highly enthusiastic, and professional directors and counsellors, committed to make a difference in the world."
