Managers, team members and guests of Couples Negril last Wednesday painted and repaired broken windows at the Green Island Primary School in Hanover as their Labour Day project. The school, which is located in the small town of Green Island, sees approximately 400 students yearly.

Green Island Primary School was chosen because of the dire need of the school and also because many of the children of Couples staff members attend this institution.

On Labour Day, the team repaired most of the broken windows, painted the entire exterior of the buildings, repaired broken water fountains, cleaned and repainted the bathroom facilities and replaced the backboards for two basketball hoops.

Future plans

Plans are in place to complete the repair of windows and to resurface the playground with fresh grass, as well as to rebuild the grade-six classroom which is in a state of disrepair.

All of the four Couples Resorts took on community Labour Day projects, including the painting and general clean-up of the Three Hills Primary School in St Mary and the building of a classroom at the Happy Hearts Basic School in Negril.

Couples Resorts, through its non-profit organisation Issa Trust Foundation will be hosting its eighth annual medical mission from September 18 to October 2.

A team of more than 40 volunteer medical providers from many United States hospitals will provide a series of free medical clinics, including free medication for children in the parishes of St Mary and Westmoreland.

The Issa Trust Foundation also provides a quarterly paediatric nursing training programme, as well as a paediatrician rotation programme in St Mary, in partnership with the Ministry of Health.

On Thursday May 24, Couples Negril handed over 10 gallons of paint to the Negril fire station as part of its Labour Day project.
