Deceiving the poor

Published:Saturday | June 2, 2012 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

An emphatic and bellicose Andrew Holness surely placed fire at the political feet of the People's National Party (PNP) in his Budget presentation on Thursday, May 31.

He painted lucid imagery of their betrayal of the poor and the PM's mendacity in her mantra of 'I love the poor'. "Now you see who really cares for the poor" was the opposition leader's words as he chastised the Government.

In my view, the promises made by the PNP were just a mere wish list and just a means to deceive the poor. Everything the PNP promised now seems like surreal imagery.

I hope Peter Phillips was listening when Andrew Holness spoke and jotted down notes. The Jamaica Labour Party would certainly not have taxed the poor so heavily.

Kudos to Andrew Holness on his Budget presentation.
