Celebrate Patois

Published:Saturday | June 2, 2012 | 12:00 AM

With regard to Keith Noel's column in The Gleaner on Friday, June 2, I urge Jamaicans not to lose their distinctive national language!

Patois is a cultural and linguistic part of your heritage. It is well known that small children who grow up with two languages have a learning advantage, added cultural adherence, and the ability to more easily learn other languages.

In Canada, our kids learn French, English and many, many other languages because of our multicultural heritage, and it only enhances their experience of the world and themselves as Canadians.

Celebrate your language, Jamaicans!
