Mix growth with austerity

Published:Monday | June 4, 2012 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I suggest that the Government use Michael Witter's excellent article 'Austerity and economic growth for Jamaica' (The Sunday Gleaner, June 3, 2012) as a blueprint to get the country out of the mess we are in. He is about 90 per cent correct in everything he has said.

In a nutshell, there has to be a mix of growth and austerity policies, and he makes excellent suggestions of what is needed to be done. The problem is that this Government does not have a clue as to what is needed, but the administration could learn from the article if it wanted to, which would then leave the problem of how to implement what it has learnt.

That might seem an impossible task, but at least stop talking and start doing what must be done.
