Politicians must cut their salaries
THE EDITOR, Sir:
We hear of taxation here and cuts there, but until this moment I have not seen the ultimate demonstration of the love of politicians for Jamaicans - a true act of selflessness.
I am proposing that all government ministers demonstrate the selfless act of taking a pay cut of no less than 20 per cent. I go even further to ask all non-ministerial sitting MPs to take a pay cut of no less than 15 per cent in the interest of the people whom you claim to serve.
The pay packages and benefits for politicians are sucking the blood from an already struggling economy. Is this what Jamaicans voted for?
We Jamaicans are tired of timid leaders. We are tired of the opportunists sitting in Parliament to make a quick buck at our expense. Madam PM, Mr Opposition Leader, inconsiderate MPs, we have no confidence in you.
As a young man looking ahead, the future of Jamaica is very dark, obscured by the very people who should be brightening it. Is this really where I want to live, study, work, start and raise a family?
