Failing to plan for kids is a sin

Published:Tuesday | June 5, 2012 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Many Jamaicans who fail to plan their families claim that they want to 'have out their lot'. They won't take the Pill, or use a condom, or a diaphragm, etc., and continue to have sex - both legitimately, in marriage, and, more often, illegitimately, out of wedlock.

The Bible shows plainly that not taking care of one's family is a sin. 1 Timothy 5:8 (New King James Version): "But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever."

Thus, deliberately having children for whom one is unable to provide care, food, clothes, shelter and education is a sin.

Planning to have children WHEN one is able to afford them is wise, BOTH in God's eyes and in the eyes of the worldly wise. Let's NOT try to 'have out our lot'.
