Hundreds of Seventh-day Adventists (SDA) Christians turned out in droves to support this year's East Jamaica Conference (EJC) 5K Health Run/Walk, which was won by the team from the Spanish Town Road-based Oak Glade Church.

Over 720 participants took to the streets of the Corporate Area in support of the annual event, which was held on Sunday, June 3. Scores of persons crammed the premises of the Kencot SDA Church, located on Osbourne Road in Kingston, as early as 6 a.m.

"Our annual 5K Health Run/Walk has been a very successful one this year," said Pastor Leonard Steele, health ministries director, EJC, and chairman of the Health Run/Walk planning committee.

He further pointed to the mass participation of churches in the Corporate Area and good responses from many of the churches in St Thomas as well.

"This year's response has been a big surprise to many people," Steele continued, as he attributed the massive turn out to early promotion coupled with the assistance of the EJC's communication team.

Pastor Milton Gregory, Health Ministries Director of Jamaica Union Conference, said he was pleased to see so many people coming to participate in the event.

"It is my dream that we will have 1000 participants in this event next year," said Gregory.
