In defence of the Old Testament

THE EDITOR, Sir:

In reading Gordon Robinson's article in The Sunday Gleaner of June 10, 2012 ('Use the brain that God gave you'), he stated that he has have no respect for the Old Testament.

I would like to point out that Yeshua made the statement, as recorded in Luke 24:44: "Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms." Mr Robinson will agree that this covers the entire 39 books of the Old Testament and what Yeshua is stating is that he is the central figure in these writings.

I would recommend that Mr Robinson watch Rabbi Michael Rood on YouTube to get some insight into the Hebraic roots of the faith.

Mr Robinson other comment that Yeshua is not the only Son of God refutes John 3:16 which, in the New King James Version, says, "For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only son," and the King James Version renders it, "His only begotten son." I think the keyword is 'begotten' in this instance.

Paul states in Romans 8:14: "Those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God." That is one of the conditions for becoming a son or daughter of God.
