Job age discrimination

Published:Wednesday | June 13, 2012 | 12:00 AM

There was an advertisement in The Gleaner recently from a well-known gym and wellness centre in the Corporate Area. Several jobs were advertised as available, and the qualifications were stated clearly.

My son telephoned, as requested in the advertisement, to arrange a time for an interview.

He was summarily dismissed and told not to bother applying for any of the jobs, although he was well qualified for the one he was interested in - because he is three years under the specified age, which was 25 years and over!

So much for him and all the other young people in need of work, who are qualified for any or all of these jobs, but because they are under 25, they do not stand a chance of even being SEEN.

That's progress for you, eh? Stupidity knows no limit of age or otherwise.
