Crack the whip at rude Ramdin
THE EDITOR, Sir:
The International Cricket Council (ICC) fined Denesh Ramdin, but what has the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) done? This immature and distasteful act should not be tolerated by the WICB or cricket fans. If you have a point to prove, go out and score runs and play excellent cricket.
The fact that one has been criticised does not condone this type of behaviour. Many persons in sports have been criticised and have shown restraint. But the behaviour by Ramdin has lowered the standard of cricket.
One wonders if a Chris Gayle or Wavell Hinds had done this, if the WICB would have already responded. So far, mum's the word from the WICB.
This is indeed a disgrace on West Indies cricket, from a player who Viv rightly stated has not performed for a long time. The fact of the matter is that Ramdin should be congratulating Viv for motivating him to bat better and hopefully be a better cricketer, instead of this nonsense. He has made himself into a clown now, and if he does not perform in the coming cricket games, egg will be on his face.
This is a lesson for everyone, that we must use criticism to make us better, but must show respect for those who criticise, especially when they are experts in the game. Ramdin is not even close to reproducing the level of cricket that Viv did in his heyday, yet he felt compelled to insult him.
The WICB needs to stop showing favouritism, and come down hard on Ramdin for his behaviour. Anything less would be a shame to the fans and cricket on a whole. This is a new low for West Indies cricket.
