Students awarded in Olympics essay competition

TWENTY-ONE STUDENTS were recognised for outstanding achievement in this year's Jamaica Olympic Association/British High Commission-sponsored Essay Competition.

Awards were presented to the winners in various categories on Thursday at the British High Commission on Trafalgar Road in New Kingston.

Among the respective winners were Nikolai-Jae Chung-Skully, Jaunel Lewis and Gabrielle Salmon in the seven-nine age group. For the parish championship, Daniel Rennicks topped the group followed by Jada Jordine and Patrick Waul.

In the 10-12 age group, Roshaun Robinson secured the top prize with Joshua Grant and Ronaldo Brown also receiving awards. In the parish championship, Jamarley Waysome collected the top award. Prizes were also presented to Khalayca Ishad, Jhordn Smith and Jenelle Samuels.

Andwayne Davis, Shellice Tyson, Javanni Waugh were the top finishers, respectively, in the 13-17 age group. Meanwhile, the parish championship went to Deval Kelly and Tasheera Duggan.

Tertiary students Abigail White, Andre Poyser and Tatiania Smith also claimed prizes for their entries.

The competition focused on what the Olympics mean to Jamaica and the United Kingdom.
