After several stagings of the event, organiser of the biannual party, OS.MO.SIS, have decided to have a weeklong celebration leading up to the event on July 7.

OS.MO.SIS Week, launched at Acropolis, Barbican, on Monday, will be held from June 30 to July 7. During this week, sponsors will be giving patrons special discounts. The sponsors offering discounts are The Gleaner Company Ltd, Adam & Eve Day Spa, NCB, LIME, Centro Latino Tours, Cuddy'z, The Arena, Smirnoff, Say It With Cakes, Reggae Jammin, Grandeur, Yahdie Conscious, Di Trends, MOD36 and Shimmer.

Speaking with The Gleaner, Deane Shepherd, one of the organisers for the event, explained that the aim of OS.MO.SIS Week is to offer more to sponsors and patrons.

"The idea behind it is to drive more value to our sponsors and our patrons as part of the lead-up and the build-up to OS.MO.SIS. The more we can drive revenue to our sponsors is the more they will support us," he said.

He noted that with discounts, people will be encouraged to shop more, thereby bringing more revenue to the sponsors.

"They give the discounts because they know they are going to get it back tenfold," Shepherd said.

Having staged the event 26 times, he added that it was also time to do something different.

"Every year, we have to continue to build and come out with new ideas. We have done the magazines, we have done the CDs, so now it's OS.MO.SIS Week taking it to a more commercial venture. Raising the profile of the event, raising the profile of our sponsors, expanding the reach of the event. We are going to be touching more people now so the event is going to grow," he told The Gleaner.

After receiving deals from the sponsors throughout the week, Shepherd said patrons will be entertained at Fort Charles, Port Royal, on July 7 with music from Renaissance, Coppershot and DJ Nicco.
