Help cops help you
THE EDITOR, Sir:
It is time the Government and social groups - including the Church - ask the inner-city communities to make a decision on what it is that they really want for themselves.
In the case of inner-city communities when gunmen go on a rampage, resulting in wide-scale bloodshed, people from the very community will blame the police for not responding immediately or failing to protect them. How?
They seem not to be able to assist the security forces on how best to help them. They are the very same ones who will hide the gunmen from the police but cannot hide themselves from the police.
When the police go into the communities in a bid to enforce law and order, and kill or maim the gunmen, it is those very inner-city people who claim 'killings in cold blood', 'men were innocent', 'the guys have never seen a gun'. And on and on it goes, stoutly supported by Jamaicans for Justice, which fuels the lawlessness, allegedly for international acceptance and funding.
The ball is in the court of inner-city people - whether they want peace or not, progress or regress. It is totally up to them, and it is time the politicians make that clear!
