Oddsmaker can go one better

Published:Friday | June 29, 2012 | 12:00 AM

Today's racing takes place at Doncaster, Folkestone, Musselburgh, along with Newmarket and The Curragh in the evening.

There is also simulcast racing from North America at Belmont Park in New York, Monmouth Park and Finger Lakes.

News coming out of England is that the unbeaten Australian horse, BLACK CAVIAR, who scrambled home for her 22nd win in the prestigious Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot last Saturday, may have run her last race.

BLACK CAVIAR's mere presence created a real buzz at the Royal meet, but the classy 6-y-o mare tore back muscles during her breathtaking victory.

Her owners will make a decision on her future in the next three or four weeks. Retirement is an option for the world's second ranked flat racing horse who gained a status akin to a national heroine in Australia after her Ascot triumph.

In other news, the 2009 American horse of the Year, RACHEL ALEXANDRA, is in foal again. 'RACHEL' had a bay colt in January after being bred to two-time 'Horse of the Year' CURLIN. And the recent Kentucky and Preakness winner I'LL HAVE ANOTHER is headed to stud duty in Japan.

Today at Musselburg in the eighth race over 12 furlongs, ODDSMAKER (5-2) is tipped to go one better in an eight-strong field of handicappers.
