Effective today, Craig Beresford will act in the capacity of the country's contractor general.

A press release from King's House yesterday indicated that Governor General Sir Patrick Allen appointed Beresford to act as contractor general until further notice.

Beresford is the senior director of operations in the Office of the Contractor General. He replaces Greg Christie who demited office yesterday.

The governor general has expressed his appreciation to Christie for his dedication and commitment to service, and the dignity with which he carried out his duties as contractor general.

Established as an independent commission in 1983, the Office of the Contractor General is responsible for the monitoring and investigation of government contracts, licences and permits, and ensures that they are awarded impartially and on merit.
