Jamaica has surpassed its Caribbean competitors with its groundbreaking 'Jamaican Travel Specialist' programme which was launched in February 2012.

Nine months since its launch and the Jamaica Tourist Board's deputy director of tourism, Donnie Dawson, has tagged it the most successful programme for agents selling destination Jamaica.

Some 6,000 agents are part of the Jamaican Travel Specialist programme.

Dawson and his team have reaped such great rewards. They flew into the country 50 top travel agents from across the United States and Canada, and fêted and awarded them at a special 'All White Affair' at the Iberostar Grand in Rose Hall, Montego Bay.

"When other destinations gave up on retail destination agents, we didn't. We never wavered in our support," boasted Dawson, as the agents concurred with loud applause.

Director of Tourism John Lynch cemented the comments when he acknowledged the agents whom he said were equally responsible for the year-on-year growth of the tourist industry.

"When Jamaica needed you, you came through for us. You have helped in taking this industry to new levels."

The agents were presented with custom-made beautiful Jamaican plaques.

Marcia Bullock and Carlene Shakes of JTB Miami helped in coordinating the event.
