NWC announces water restrictions - Company urges customers to store the precious commodity
IN AN attempt to manage the limited water supply in the Rio Cobre/Tulloch Spring and Ferry water supply systems, the National Water Commission (NWC) yesterday implemented a new distribution schedule on these systems.
According to the NWC, while some amount of rainfall is being experienced in sections of the island, these systems are currently only operating at 70 per cent of capacity, and customers will continue to experience interruptions in their piped water supply, resulting in low water pressure or no water at various times.
The water company said this is owing partly to the prolonged drought conditions at the Eastern Headworks facility and equipment damage at Tulloch Spring.
The following are the areas and times of regular water supply: 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. - Portmore and Hellshire; 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. - Washington Boulevard and roads leading off, Molynes Road and roads leading off, Patrick City, Meadowbrook Estate, Duhaney Park, Eltham Gardens, Spanish Town Road, Whitfield Town, Marcus Garvey Drive and sections of downtown Kingston.
The NWC said Sligoville and adjoining areas will receive piped water supply between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. and trucked supplies during the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. to elevated areas not supplied during the night.
Outside of the stipulated times, customers will experience low water pressure or may have no water at all.
The NWC said it apologises for the inconvenience and urges customers to store water for the period they may be without the commodity.
