Romney relinquishes presidential bid

SALT LAKE CITY (AP):Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said he's finished with trying to run for president. Romney made the comments while addressing students at the University of Utah's business school on Wednesday.

The former Massachusetts governor and two-time presidential candidate joked that his wife Ann or son Josh, a Utah resident, would be good candidates in the next election.

Tropical storm Karen forms in Gulf of Mexico

MIAMI (AP):Tropical Storm Karen has formed in the Gulf of Mexico, and a hurricane watch is in effect along the Gulf Coast from Louisiana to Florida. The United States National Hurricane Center in Miami said the late-season storm formed yesterday morning. It was about 500 miles (805 km) south of the mouth of the Mississippi River and already had maximum sustained winds of 60 mph (95 kph). Karen was moving north-northwest at 13 mph (20 kph). It could be at or near hurricane strength by Friday.


California governor to sign immigrant-licence bill

LOS ANGELES (AP):Governor Jerry Brown was scheduled to sign a bill yesterday, adding California to the growing list of states allowing immigrants in the country illegally to obtain driver licenses.

Immigrant advocates have long lobbied for the change in the nation's most populous state so immigrants can drive without fearing being pulled over for a ticket, which could wind up getting them deported.
