Ready for the road

Sean Pitter will be taking part in Training Camp's 5K 2014 road race.

Training Camp has extended the deadline for the 5K Road Race until today. The third staging of the annual 5K Road Race and Walk starts at 7 a.m. on Sunday, January 5. It starts and ends in the Manor Park Plaza, Constant Spring. Everyone is invited to come out and walk for the fun, walk for the exercise, and run for a better time.

Competitors already registered for the race are; defending champions Tanice Barnett and 2012 winner Areita Martin from GC Foster College, who also won at the CB UWI 5K event. Kirk Brown, winner of the JC's 2013 10K Road Race, will have keen competition, from Andrew Gutzmore and Sean Pitter, winner of the inaugural event. Also participating is Andrew Gayle, the top runner for the Jamaica Constabulary Force last year.

Categories For 5K

The three main categories for the run are: Under 20, Over 20, and Over 40, male and female. The overall male and female winners will win tickets to North America on Delta Airlines.

This year, Training Camp will be introducing a 50 per cent discount on registration for managers and coaches.

Olympic hurdler Hansel Parchment and principal of the Constant Spring Primary and Junior High School, Nellie Boxe, will be starting the race and walk, respectively.

How to Enter

1. Participants under 20 years pay JA$300 per entry, and over 20, over 40 and over 65 pay JA$1,000 per entry.

2. Teams that include a maximum of 12 persons are JA$10,000 and a special rate of JA$3,000 for school teams.

3. Companies/teams/schools may enter more than one team.

4. Coaches and managers are given 50% discount off registration when they sign up.

5. Additional entries attract a fee of $900 and $250.
