McCaulay right on environment

Published:Monday | March 3, 2014 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I am shocked that The Gleaner would publish the column by Ronald Mason titled 'That screeching environmentalist' on March 2, 2014.

A petty name-calling misogynist like this should not have his voice published in this way. I lived in Jamaica for many years and have to say there is no one I would rather have speak for me than that "screeching environmentalist", more respectfully known as Diana McCaulay.

I think Mrs McCaulay sees the bigger picture in Jamaica better than anyone. She bears witness to the destruction the Government allows and brings and attempts to help the people speak up.

Poverty makes these issues very difficult, but without taking care of the environment, there will be nothing left for Jamaicans to be proud of. That moment is perilously close.
