Pan-Africanists to hold talks at UWI
Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller is expected to open the Ninth Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization (CBAAC) International Colloquium, slated to get under way tomorrow at the Mona Visitors' Lodge, University of the West Indies.
The four-day colloquium, under the theme 'Toward a New Pan-Africanism - Deploying Anthropology, Archaeology, History and Philosophy in the Service of Africa and the Diaspora', is being organised by the CBAAC, Lagos, Nigeria, in conjunction with Pan-African Strategic and Policy Research Group (PANAFSTRAG), the University of the West Indies' Department of Language, Linguistics and Philosophy, the Nigerian High Commission, the South African High Commission and the African Caribbean Institute of Jamaica/Jamaica Memory Bank (ACIJ/JMB).
With the opening ceremony scheduled for 6 p.m., the event will bring together top pan-Africanists, historians, academics, public intellectuals, researchers, archaeologists, anthropologists, philosophers, Nollywood actors, parliamentarians, activists and other experts from Africa and the diaspora.
In a release, the organisers noted that the public is invited to attend, free of cost, to share in the interaction, discussions and networking opportunities offered.
