JCDC World Reggae Dance workshops to improve performances - Entries still being accepted

The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) will begin a series of regional development workshops as it gears up for the 2014 staging of the World Reggae Dance Championship.

These preliminary workshops, being held in May, are in an effort to improve the quality of performances in the championship.

"The workshop initiative is expected to improve this year's entries as well as reggae dance in Jamaica as the regional workshops across the island are open to amateurs, semi-professional and professional dancers," said Juliet Cowan-Morgan, competition coordinator.

The workshops are scheduled for tomorrow at the Ocean Village Shopping Centre, St Ann; Friday at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre, and Saturday at the St Elizabeth Technical High School, starting at 12:30 p.m. each day.

The workshop will be led by dance trainer Orville 'Expressionz' Hall, with a registration cost of $1,000 per group.

Cowan-Morgan also noted that entries for the competition are still being accepted, and while groups can register at the elimination shows, they are encouraged to submit by Friday, May 30, 2014.

Entry forms are available online at www.jcdc.gov.jm, at the JCDC head office, 3-5 Phoenix Avenue, Kingston 10 and all JCDC parish offices islandwide.

The World Reggae Dance Championship has been steadily building on a strong foundation and other countries are invited to purchase the World Reggae Dance Championship franchise to host an elimination show in their country and send the winners to participate in the international final in Jamaica set for August 2014.
