The Gleaner's Children's Own 2014 Spelling Bee Champion, Tajaun Gibbison, out of Clarendon, departed on Saturday to represent Jamaica at the 86th Annual Scripps National Spelling Bee Competition in the United States.
The 13-year-old was oozing with confidence as he prepared to board the flight to Washington DC.
"Right now I am proud to be a Jamaican and this feels so good being able to represent my country," said Gibbison.
"I know I am ready for this and my family is behind me 100 per cent," added the student of Knox College.
His coach, Dr Glen Archer, who is going to the spelling bee competition in the United States was also confident that Gibbison has what it takes to cop the top prize.
