Detoxing

Are you experiencing mood swings, eczema, allergies, acne, migraines, indigestion, insomnia, severe menopausal symptoms, bloating, weight gain (even though you are exercising), depression, anxiety, joint pain, arthritis, chronic colds, coughs or flu and lack of energy or libido? If your answer to any or all of the above is yes, it's a sign that you have toxic overload. Don't be alarmed by the term, we are living in a toxic world, so every now and then, our body needs time to rest, heal and reset. The best way to do this is with a detox.

Think about all the lead (iron) you inhale and chemicals put on your skin (which is the largest organ in the body) - the soap, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, perfume, lotion, make-up, nail polish, hair products, etc, that are used for hygienic and beauty purposes. Whatever you use on your skin is absorbed through and goes straight into your blood stream, which can result in various chronic diseases.

Public relations manager at Columbus Communications (Flow) Jeanette Lewis told Flair that she was feeling easily depressed, grumpy and annoyed by everything at work and in her personal life - easily depressed and lethargic, walking around with a long face. Lewis joined the detox team after she had done a yoga session with Feanny in January 2013 at Hope Gardens. Being interested in Feanny's yoga retreat that was scheduled for May 2013, she followed Feanny through her online blog and learnt about her detox programme. "In December, I took what I called my detox vacation to participate in Sharon Feanny's first Kingston detox group. It was the most amazing and transformational experience. After I completed it, I got so many comments from people that I was glowing. Most important for me, though, was that I felt so good inside. I have more energy, and enjoyed mental clarity like never before. From the detox programme I have acquired so many great tools that I have adopted on my journey to wellness and that are now a part of my daily life, " a rejuvenated Lewis told Flair.

Feanny now does her detox every season; spring (January), summer (June), fall (September) and winter (December). You can either do seven or 21 days. Her next session begins on June 8, and last Wednesday she hosted a detox information session exploring all the aspects of detoxing - what it is and do you really need it.

Detoxing assists the body in doing what it does naturally. When the body is overloaded by toxins it slows down our metabolism, making us feel tired and fatigued and we become vulnerable to diseases and sickness.

According to Feanny, you need detox to:

  • reset your body
  • feel like your life is in balance
  • to increase focus and energy
  • prevent premature ageing and make you glow
  • lose those vanity pounds

Eliminate - A detox starts with elimination.

Eliminating toxic triggers called the 'Bad Boys'. These are caffeine, alcohol, sugar, wheat, dairy, nicotine and all acidic producing foods.

Incorporate delicious, high vitality, organic if possible, supernutritious foods into our bodies.

Accelerate the detox process is the integration of yoga, breathing, meditation and deep rest.
