Disgracefully poor post office service
THE EDITOR, Sir:
My husband and I, as did my parents before us, have been renting the same letter box at the Morant Bay Post Office for decades. During the period of the tenure this year, we suffered the inconvenience of not having the use of the box for long periods.
On the first occasion, the lock became defective and so, the key was retrieved from us and we had to collect our mail from the front office. Weeks passed and when the key was finally returned, it still didn't work. Of course, we returned the key and waited - this time for months - before regaining access, all this time still getting our mail with the kind assistance of the clerks in the front.
The question of a rebate of fees went without being addressed and, sure enough, when we failed to pay the fees promptly, the letter box was locked by the authorities.
Could there not have been some consideration given for the inconvenience we suffered for months through no fault of our own? In my opinion, the action smacks of a breach of contract and a lack of initiative on the part of those in charge at the local level.
So, Mr Postmaster, sir, what of our 'ounce of flesh'?
Customer service? Ha!! Then in light of the advancement of technology, whither goeth the post office?
