Two alleged would-be robbers were fatally shot by a licensed firearm holder in May Pen, Clarendon, Friday night.

The police also recovered a loaded 9-mm pistol following the shooting.

The dead men have been identified as 23-year-old Tafari 'Little Joe' Mitchell and David 'Fref-Fref' Waugh, both of Sevens Road in the parish. Waugh was out on bail after being arrested on larceny charges.

According to the police, the licensed firearm holder had gone to a garage at the intersection of Love Lane and Bryant Crescent to effect repairs to his motor car when he was attacked by the two men who attempted to rob him.

SELF-DEFENCE

The police say one of the men was armed with a pistol. "He was forced to protect himself, and this time the law-abiding citizen prevailed," said one detective at the scene.

"Him still have the man gold chain in his hand, which he pop from around the man's neck," said the detective, as he pointed in the direction where the body of one of the alleged robbers lay.
