UTech entrepreneurial programme boost

Diana Allen (right), senior marketing officer, First Heritage Co-operative Credit Union Limited, presents a sponsorship cheque for $500,000 to the University of Technology (UTech) for the university's Business Education and Entrepreneurship pilot project in high schools. Accepting the cheque (from left) are Dr Rohan Lewis, dean of the Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies, Dr Leonie Clarke, head of the School of Technical and Vocational Education, and Vivia Clarke, programme director, Business and Computer Studies Programme, Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies, on June 4, at the UTech campus in Papine. The schools selected for the programme are Excelsior High, Dunoon Technical, Norman Manley High, Oberlin High and Haile Selassie High. Each will receive $100,000 to start a business of choice. Business Education teachers in respective schools will be responsible for monitoring the students and managing the fund in coordination with UTech business education lecturers over the six-month life of the project. - Jermaine Barnaby/Photographer
