Educational trust a welcome idea

Published:Saturday | June 14, 2014 | 12:00 AM

The idea of a Tertiary Educational Trust put forward by parliamentarian Damion Crawford in his Sectoral Debate presentation is one that I fully support. In fact, it should be a National Educational Trust so that it assists individuals as long as the funds are used for the purpose of Education.

We have an education tax, but be reminded that these monies have been put in a central pool, the Consolidated Fund. The Tertiary Educational Trust should be based on the format of the National Housing Trust.

In our society, it is easy to duplicate negative activities and events, but I call for a bill to be tabled on this very important and expensive undertaking.
