Concrete road to be piloted at Riverton City Landfill
A PILOT project to pave Jamaican roads with concrete solution is to be implemented first on an access road leading to the Riverton City Landfill in St Andrew.
In his contribution to the Sectoral Debate in Parliament on Tuesday, Local Government Minister Noel Arscott announced that the project would be funded by the MesoAmerican Fund operated by the Mexican government to the tune of $200 million.
He said after the Riverton pilot, the Government would use concrete to pave another 20 kilometres of roadway.
Arscott told his parliamentary colleagues that his ministry, along with the transport, works and housing ministry, has been assessing road construction technologies with a view to realising value for money.
"In light of the benefits to be derived, the ministry is endorsing concrete as one of the preferred paving material for our roads, given its life expectancy, hard wearing abilities, load-carrying capacities and competitive price," he added.
