Protesters must obey law, say police

THE EDITOR, Sir:

The police wish to respond to a letter published in The Gleaner on Saturday, June 14, 2014 under the caption 'Pro-Bain horn honkers targeted by cops'. The writer noted an alleged experience with a police officer.

It must be noted that it is not the policy of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) that members perform their duties in a manner that is unprofessional or infringes on the civil rights of any citizen.

We acknowledge the allegation and wish to reiterate the fact that we cannot ignore lawbreaking. However, we support protest that is peaceful and lawful.

The police, therefore, ask that protesters in support of or against any cause, as well as those in sympathy with them, simply obey the law.
