Short salaries ail doctors at Cornwall Regional

Western Jamaica's premier health-care facility, the Cornwall Regional Hospital, was bracing for problems last night after several doctors reported sick.

The Gleaner understands that some doctors have already obtained three-day sick leave certificates while others were awaiting their notices.

A source close to the hospital said the doctors were upset that their salaries for this month were short by amounts ranging from 15 to 50 per cent, with no explanation offered by hospital administrators.

Meanwhile, it is understood that already several key medical procedures have been aborted.

Attempts to get a comment from the hospital administration or the Western Regional Health Authority were unsuccessful up to last night.
