Jamaicans have converged every which where they can, from sport bars to restaurants and betting shops, in order to get in on the action at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Now the Carib 5 cinema says it is offering the real thing, games in live and living colour for Jamaican $ 1,000 front-row seats and $800 regular.

These World Cup games represent another talking point and entertainment opportunity among the Jamaican viewers, remarked Coleen Brown Jackson, public relations officer (PRO) for Palace Amusement Company.

"Now Carib offers every Jamaican a chance to hear every thud of the ball, see every expression on the faces of their favourite players and sing along to every chant in the stands," she said.

She also noted that the cinema offers entertainment via the biggest available screen in Jamaica, at a reasonable price.

"Our high-definition screen is equipped with 5.1 surround sound system, so the experience will be next to the real thing. For a good time, fans can support the team of their choice," she noted.

Two members of a small, but jubilant crowd that turned out to watch the 11 a.m. game between Argentina and Nigeria yesterday were Elvis Smith and Fitzgerald Lewis.

chants and shouts

"My boss and I are JUTA Tours operators; we just took time off from the noisy streets to enjoy the game. We only heard of this package word of mouth and decided to come here and try it," said Lewis.

Both supported different teams, given the chants and shouts whenever goals were scored.

Lewis, who was loudest, said: "It feels like I am seeing the real Messi for the first time watching this big screen."

Smith, however, made his support clear after Nigeria's Ahmed Musa equalised.

"The green of the Nigerians' shirt looks good on the screen, that's all I can say," he declared.

Another patron, Anthony Campbell, expressed that "watching the game at Palace is comfortable and next to the real thing".

Carib 5 is located in Cross Roads and will be showing the rest of the World Cup live.
