Since May of this year, Active Home Centre, formerly known as Active Traders Limited, has introduced its customers to a new initiative, that of being Jamaica's first home-enhancement retailer to offer a payment plan for its customers.

Asked what inspired this initiative, Christopher Graham, managing director of Active Home Centre, says that he believes "it will help to assuage tightening budgets in a tough economy. Customers, therefore, will be able to access quality products and complete their design and furnishing projects without worrying about how to cover the costs."

The customers who are interested will have access to the company's financing representatives who will advise them on the range of products this payment plan will cover. This includes tiles, roofing, kitchen, bathroom, furniture, lighting and more. This is also enhanced by a relatively short processing time which, according to the marketing and sales manager, Roxanne Miller, is a maximum of "three working days with pick-up service available just 24 hours after approval".

Repayment requirements

The requirements for repayment are quite flexible, ranging from three to 36 months and may become even more specifically altered to meet the needs of the customer. This new initiative began shortly after the facility was improved with a new showroom along Constant Spring Road. The new facility is said to benefit the customers in that it allows them to visualise and experience firsthand, the products offered for residential and commercial spaces.

Miller states that, "With our improved facilities, diverse product offerings and new financing programme, Active Home Centre is a one-stop shopping experience, complete with the expertise to provide advice on any project. The company expects to see a minimum growth of 10 to 15 per cent this year for revenues, simply because financing has never been done for this segment by a retailer."
