Lagarde's IMF experimenting on black people - Mike

THE EDITOR, Sir:

The visit of Ms Christine Lagarde to bolster the political campaign chest of the People's National Party (PNP) looms ominously over the political landscape and, yes, bitter future of Jamaica.

No one in their right mind would deny that we have lived beyond our earnings; note I have deliberately not said our 'means' - and that is because we have had the means - but our failed leaders have not used those means to engender a growth path to guide our social and economic development.

The PNP has allowed our ambitions to diminish, almost as if it needs to create more poverty to have more political dependents. Now we are left with the preening feathers of the PNP, which must be salivating at the prospect of an early general election before the Jamaican dollar plunges further in value.

As I said when I was part of the Cabinet and I say now, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is using Jamaica to its own ends with this extended fund facility which, like many experiments on black people in the past, will fade into obscurity as our people are reduced to beggars.

How can a country so rich in resources allow its leaders to stay in place and pander to our decline?

The two-party system has failed us. Let's call a halt to the pontificating of the departed and see how we can coalesce around a new vision - before we perish.
