WESTERN BUREAU:

Venus Domino Club defeated Perry Strikers by four points - 300-296 - in a thrilling season-opener last Sunday, as the full slate of matches in the Western Domino League Division Two got under way.

It was one of five matches on the day and provided a tonload of excitement, as Perry Strikers looked set to claim victory early in the contest. However, Venus stormed back into contention with a series of good games, and held on for a top-rated win.

"This game had everything for the spectators and was really a tremendous contest that had everyone interested right to the very end," said Walford Morgriege, the league director.

There was also riveting action between Trelawny rivals Rainbow of Duncans and Small Axe of Rio Bueno, with Rainbow stopping their neighbours 300-291. Broadway brushed aside Glendevon CDC All-Star 300-239 in what was the biggest margin of victory on the day; Westmoreland-based Tatch Domino Club fell 292-300 to Peace and Love; while Dallas held on for an easy 31-point victory over Wakefield, 300-269.

turn up the heat

Tomorrow, the Premier League will swing into action with four matchups, the biggest of which pits Strike Force against Intouch of Petersfield, Westmoreland. The two had some big matches last season and will no doubt turn up the heat once more.

In other Premier League clashes, Dynasty will tackle Deeside at Union Street, Montego Bay, Cool Wave will look to keep Unity Strikers at bay, while Long Bay take on Tuff Gong at Lilliput.

In Division One, Hawkeye Stingers will battle Grange Hill Alliance at Hopewell, Hanover, while Western Star come face-to-face with Uptown, and Dynamic Strikers will match up against Star International.

Venus, with one win under their belt, will hope to maintain a good start when they travel to Paradise, Norwood, St James, to play Broadway, while Tatch and Small Axe meet in Savanna-la-Mar with the aim of securing a first win for either club. Wakefield will host Perry Strikers and Glendevon CDC clash with Peace and Love.

Rainbow and Dallas will meet in the other match of the day. All games start at 1 p.m.
