Novelette Grant could be a good pick
THE EDITOR, Sir:
Crime needs something to stabilise it, and we could get this from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) if we can identify an efficient and effective commissioner, whether male or female.
We have tried many males, still felonious acts of cruelty continue to escalate. Extrajudicial killings continue to be a major concern to the Jamaican populace. To be truthful, we could definitely try a woman to see what the soft side of policing could actually stimulate. We want to know what the females have to offer their country and stop the male chauvinism.
In an article published recently, 'Novelette Grant as commissioner of police' (Gleaner, July 10, 2014), Devon Dick suggested it was time to try a female commissioner of police.
I embrace the idea that females can be more efficient than us males if they are not subjected to discrimination. I have listened to DCP Grant on numerous occasions, speaking so eloquently and I, too, feel she could be a very good pick.
After we have exhausted our talent pool, then we could look to foreign lands. Please give Novelette Grant a chance.
