State funeral for Sir Howard
The Office of the Prime Minister has announced that former Governor General Sir Howard Cooke is to be accorded a state funeral on August 8.
The funeral will be held at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, 1 George Headley Drive, Kingston, starting at 10 a.m.
Interment will follow at the National Heroes Park.
State funerals are accorded to governors general and prime ministers and other persons so determined by the Cabinet.
Sir Howard served as governor general of Jamaica from 1991-2006 ending some 70 years in public service.
He was previously an elected member of the West Indies Federal Parliament in 1958, and a member of the first Parliament of Independent Jamaica in 1962.
