Jamaica will pay if not proactive - Christie

Former Contractor General Greg Christie has declared he will not be fazed by reports that individuals or entities who, while under his watch, were struck from the list of official government contractors are considering legal action against him.

The Jamaica Association of Contractors, Construction and Consultants has accused Christie of blatantly disregarding the rules of law and natural justice.

However, the former contractor general is maintaining that in all instances the contractors made materially false statements on their application forms.

Commenting through his official Twitter account, Christie said once false information is presented by a contractor, the Government's procurement rules mandate that the contractor cannot be registered.

"Delisting contractors who lie to secure contracts is an internationally recognised anti-corruption best practice," Christie said.

"The global community is watching JA (Jamaica) and if it fails to be proactive and decisive in combating corruption, it will surely pay the price."
