'Cruffessionals' at Spanish Town Hospital

Published:Saturday | August 2, 2014 | 12:00 AM

I write to express my disgust at the way in which some 'professionals' handle their business.

I went to the Spanish Town Hospital to get medical attention for a breast abscess. The doctor on duty asked me one question: "Why are you here?" I began to explain my situation (giving specific details), and without examining me, he said, "Go across the road and buy yourself a pregnancy test." Really? I was so mad as hell that I left and went back home before going to a private doctor the next day.

We are living in modern days. Why would I 'draw my bottom on hospital bench' just to see a doctor to find out if I am pregnant, when I could run to the pharmacy and purchase myself a pregnancy test kit? And even so, aren't urine tests done at hospitals when nurses are doing patients' vitals?

What got me more upset is the fact that he didn't even ask me if I was sexually active, or when I last had sex. I could be a virgin for heaven's sake! Now why would I even think of doing a pregnancy test when I haven't lost my virginity? And bear in mind, he did no examination whatsoever of my breast. These are the kinds of 'cruffessionals' we have dealing with people's health.

And to highlight that this doctor' knows nothing about his job, the private doctor I went to examined me and confirmed that it was indeed a breast abscess and gave me a referral to take back to the hospital.
